SUMMARY:Mount Stephenson - Chetwynd - Day Hike
DESCRIPTION:MOUNT STEPHENSON – CHETWYND AREA\, BC.\nA summit lake. A mountain backdrop. A hike that earns every step. \nGuided Day Hike. For strong\, experienced hikers ready to push into the alpine. \n \n \n \n BOOK NOW\n \nJuly 18\, 2026 – 8:30 AM \nMt. Stephenson\nMount Stephenson is not a casual stroll — and that’s exactly why it’s worth doing. This rugged\, backcountry route near Chetwynd takes you through 540m of elevation gain over 7 km return\, following a seismic line up into spectacular alpine terrain. At the top\, you’re rewarded with a breathtaking view of an alpine lake with Mount Stephenson rising behind it — one of those views that stops you mid-step and reminds you why you go outside in the first place. \nThis is route travel. There’s no established trail\, no signage\, and no guarantee it’ll be easy. What we can guarantee: an experienced guide\, a safe group\, and a day in the kind of landscape that northern BC does better than anywhere. \nThis event is offered in partnership with the Chetwynd Outdoor Society\, who have been championing outdoor access in this region for years. We’re proud to work alongside them. \n\n\n TRIP AT A GLANCE\n \n  \n\nDate: July 18\, 2026\nDistance: 7 km return\nApproximate Time: 6 hours\nElevation Gain: 540m\nDifficulty: Challenging — for experienced hikers with solid fitness\nAccess: Forest Service Road (suitable for most vehicles in good road conditions)\nLocation: Mount Stephenson\, ~75 km from Chetwynd\, BC\nPartner: Chetwynd Outdoor Society\nCommunity Contribution: $5 from every booking is donated to the Chetwynd Outdoor Society\n\n\n\n\n INCLUDED\n \n  \n\nExperienced guide for the full day\nRoute navigation on unmarked alpine terrain\nA summer day exploring the Chetwynd area\, BC\nBear spray mini course\nProper fossil handling\nPlant and ecosystem identification along the way\nPeak Wyld Co. sticker\nShared photo album from the day\nPre-trip communication with packing list and meeting details\nFirst aid kit\, emergency supplies\, and a satellite communication device carried by your guide\n$5 from every booking is donated to the Chetwynd Outdoor Society\n\n\n\n\n FEE & CANCELLATION POLICY\n \nFee & Booking \n$65.00 + GST. If we cancel due to unforeseen circumstances or an act of God\, your payment will be credited to a future date. If the trip doesn’t reach the minimum number of participants\, you’ll receive a full refund. \nWe always do our best to reach our destination — but please be aware that weather and safety conditions in the backcountry can occasionally change our plans. That’s the nature of the north\, and we appreciate your understanding. \n\n\n\n FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS\n \nWho is this hike for? This hike is for experienced hikers with solid cardiovascular fitness. The 540m elevation gain and 6-hour timeframe make it more demanding than an average day hike. If you’re newer to hiking\, we’d recommend starting with Le Hudette Lakes (June 20) and working up to this one. \nIs there a trail? No. Mount Stephenson is a backcountry route\, currently marked with orange flagging tape. Our guide has experience on this terrain and will lead navigation throughout the day. \nWhat’s the road access like? Access is via a decent dirt/gravel Forest Service Road. Driving directions and road notes will be sent to all registered participants before the event date. \nWhat if the weather turns? We operate in northern BC — we don’t run from clouds or light rain. If weather creates a genuine safety risk\, we will make that call early and communicate clearly. If Peak Wyld Co. cancels\, your payment is credited toward a future date. \nIs this suitable for beginners? Honestly\, no. This is rugged\, unmarked alpine terrain with significant elevation gain. We want everyone to have a great experience — and that means being honest that this one is for people who have spent real time in the backcountry. \nIs bear spray mandatory? No\, but it is always recommended that everyone carry bear spray.  \n\n\n\n WHAT TO PACK\n \nPack \n\n20–30L daypack\nRain cover for daypack (optional but recommended)\n\nFootwear & Clothing \n\nSturdy\, broken-in hiking boots with ankle support\nMoisture-wicking hiking shirt — long sleeves recommended for sun protection\nHiking shorts or pants\nWaterproof rain jacket and pants\nWarm mid-layer (fleece or puffy)\nExtra socks\, gloves\, and a toque/buff — weather changes fast up here\nGaiters (optional\, great for creek crossings)\nChange of clothes waiting for you in the car\n\nFood & Water \n\n2–3L of water (hydration bladder + water bottle recommended)\nHigh-energy snacks\nPacked lunch\n\nSun & Bug Protection \n\nSunscreen\nSunglasses\nHat\nLip balm\nBug spray\n\nSafety & Essentials \n\nHeadlamp + extra batteries\nPersonal first aid kit\nEmergency shelter (emergency blanket)\nMatches and fire starter\nMulti-tool or knife\nToilet paper\nBear spray\nTrekking poles (optional but recommended\, especially on the descent)\n\n\nYour guide will carry the group’s core survival and safety equipment — but building the habit of carrying your own essentials is one of the best things you can do as a backcountry traveller. Extra clothing is one of the Ten Essentials for a reason: be prepared to be out longer than planned and for conditions to shift. \n\n  \n\nDate: July 18\, 2026\nDistance: 7 km return\nApproximate Time: 6 hours\nElevation Gain: 540m\nDifficulty: Challenging — for experienced hikers with solid fitness\nAccess: Forest Service Road (suitable for most vehicles in good road conditions)\nLocation: Mount Stephenson\, ~75 km from Chetwynd\, BC\nPartner: Chetwynd Outdoor Society\nCommunity Contribution: $5 from every booking is donated to the Chetwynd Outdoor Society\n\n  \n\nExperienced guide for the full day\nRoute navigation on unmarked alpine terrain\nA summer day exploring the Chetwynd area\, BC\nBear spray mini course\nProper fossil handling\nPlant and ecosystem identification along the way\nPeak Wyld Co. sticker\nShared photo album from the day\nPre-trip communication with packing list and meeting details\nFirst aid kit\, emergency supplies\, and a satellite communication device carried by your guide\n$5 from every booking is donated to the Chetwynd Outdoor Society\n\nFee & Booking \n$65.00 + GST.
