Stephenson \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Mount Stephenson is not a casual stroll — and that’s exactly why it’s worth doing. This rugged\, backcountry route near Chetwynd takes you through 540m of elevation gain over 7 km return\, following a seismic line up into spectacular alpine terrain. At the top\, you’re rewarded with a breathtaking view of an alpine lake with Mount Stephenson rising behind it — one of those views that stops you mid-step and reminds you why you go outside in the first place. This is route travel. There’s no established trail\, no signage\, and no guarantee it’ll be easy. What we can guarantee: an experienced guide\, a safe group\, and a day in the kind of landscape that northern BC does better than anywhere. This event is offered in partnership with the Chetwynd Outdoor Society\, who have been championing outdoor access in this region for years. If we cancel due to unforeseen circumstances or an act of God\, your payment will be credited to a future date. If the trip doesn’t reach the minimum number of participants\, you’ll receive a full refund. We always do our best to reach our destination — but please be aware that weather and safety conditions in the backcountry can occasionally change our plans. That’s the nature of the north\, and we appreciate your understanding. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n Who is this hike for? This hike is for experienced hikers with solid cardiovascular fitness. The 540m elevation gain and 6-hour timeframe make it more demanding than an average day hike. If you’re newer to hiking\, we’d recommend starting with Le Hudette Lakes (June 20) and working up to this one. Is there a trail? No. Mount Stephenson is a backcountry route\, currently marked with orange flagging tape. Our guide has experience on this terrain and will lead navigation throughout the day. What’s the road access like? Access is via a decent dirt/gravel Forest Service Road. Driving directions and road notes will be sent to all registered participants before the event date. What if the weather turns? We operate in northern BC — we don’t run from clouds or light rain. If weather creates a genuine safety risk\, we will make that call early and communicate clearly. If Peak Wyld Co. cancels\, your payment is credited toward a future date. Is this suitable for beginners? Honestly\, no. This is rugged\, unmarked alpine terrain with significant elevation gain. We want everyone to have a great experience — and that means being honest that this one is for people who have spent real time in the backcountry. Is bear spray mandatory? No\, but it is always recommended that everyone carry bear spray.  								\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n WHAT TO PACK \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n Pack 20–30L daypackRain cover for daypack (optional but recommended)Footwear & Clothing Sturdy\, broken-in hiking boots with ankle supportMoisture-wicking hiking shirt — long sleeves recommended for sun protectionHiking shorts or pantsWaterproof rain jacket and pantsWarm mid-layer (fleece or puffy)Extra socks\, gloves\, and a toque/buff — weather changes fast up hereGaiters (optional\, great for creek crossings)Change of clothes waiting for you in the carFood & Water 2–3L of water (hydration bladder + water bottle recommended)High-energy snacksPacked lunchSun & Bug Protection SunscreenSunglassesHatLip balmBug spraySafety & Essentials Headlamp + extra batteriesPersonal first aid kitEmergency shelter (emergency blanket)Matches and fire starterMulti-tool or knifeToilet paperBear sprayTrekking poles (optional but recommended\, especially on the descent)Your guide will carry the group’s core survival and safety equipment — but building the habit of carrying your own essentials is one of the best things you can do as a backcountry traveller. Cancellation Policy Because outdoor adventures involve real upfront costs\, day hike bookings are non-refundable. That said\, we want to work with you — if you need to cancel 5 or more days before the trip\, we’ll issue a full credit toward a future Peak Wyld Co. adventure. Cancellations made within 5 days of the event are not eligible for a credit. Spots are limited\, so the earlier you let us know\, the better. What if Peak Wyld Co. cancels?
