We recommend bringing a 2L hydration bladder along with a 1L water bottle for ease of carrying. Once at the lake\, we strongly advise filtering the water\, as it can sometimes appear discoloured due to weather conditions. River runoff may also affect clarity\, so carrying a water filter is essential for backcountry safety. \nWhere do we meet?Participants will gather at the Fort Nelson Visitor Centre at 10:00 AM on July 17\, 2026. \nAre campfires permitted every night?Campfire availability is contingent upon the current wildfire situation. It is crucial to be aware of any fire bans that may be in effect. In some areas along the trail\, campfires may not be allowed regardless of the ban status. \nWhat are the bathroom facilities?Participants will be responsible for creating catholes\, which must be dug at least 200 feet (60 meters) away from water sources\, trails\, and campsites. We encourage the buddy system when venturing away from camp and advise carrying bear spray. As a camp rule\, if you use the bathroom\, please return with a stick for the fire. An outhouse is available at Wokkpash Lake. \nHow many guides will be present? One experienced guide will accompany the group throughout the trip\, providing support and expertise. They will carry an In-Reach Satellite communication device for two-way messaging and emergency contact with helicopter support\, ensuring safety in the unlikely event of an emergency. \nCan we go on day hikes?Participants are required to remain with the group and are not permitted to embark on day hikes or other solo adventures. We prioritize group cohesion and visibility\, and any changes to this policy will be communicated by the guide. Rain days may allow for day hikes\, depending on weather conditions. \nWill a detailed itinerary be provided?Yes\, we will issue a detailed itinerary outlining our day-to-day activities. However\, please note that river levels and weather conditions can significantly impact our plans\, as flooding may occasionally render certain routes impassable. \nWhat should we know about bears and wildlife? We adhere to stringent bear safety protocols while travelling in groups. The trail is shared with various wildlife\, including both small and large game. Previous trips have encountered porcupines and marmots. Participants should store their supplies in dry bags\, as food storage can be challenging. Guides will carry protective measures\, including a firearm\, and food will be stored away from camp whenever possible. Bear caches are located along the trail\, including one at Wokkpash Lake.  \nAre dogs allowed on the trip?No pets\, including dogs\, are permitted on this trip. Only guides may bring their dogs. \nWhat if the plane cannot land due to weather conditions? The weather in mountainous regions can be unpredictable\, and flight cancellations may occur. We prepare for such scenarios by packing an extra day’s worth of food. Two planes will be scheduled to transport participants from Wokkpash Lake to Muncho Lake\, but we cannot guarantee both will operate on the same day. We recommend not booking return flights for the same day and allowing an additional day or two in case of delays. Consider securing trip insurance for your travel arrangements. \nIs there cell service on the trail? There is no cell service available while on the trail. If you possess a satellite communication device\, we encourage you to bring it along. Once we arrive at the lodge\, you will be provided with Wi-Fi access. Please note that phone use is discouraged during dinner to foster group interaction and enjoyment of the natural surroundings. \nCommunicationPeak Wyld Co utilizes satellite email systems for emergency communication\, specifically Inreach Garmin devices. \nLiability InsurancePeak Wyld Co holds liability insurance as mandated by the conditions of the Park Use Permit. Peak Wyld Co is not liable for any damage or complications that may occur with your vehicle during the trip. \nShould I tip the guide? \nWhile not mandatory\, tipping is appreciated for excellent service. Our guides work hard to ensure a successful trip\, and gratuities are a meaningful way to express your gratitude for their efforts. We do not specify a set amount\, allowing you to tip according to your satisfaction. \n\n\n\n RENTALS AVAILABLE\n \nLIGHTWEIGHT TENT (2 Person) – $50   \nJETBOIL + 1 Canister – $50  \n1 CANISTER OF FUEL – $10 \nHIKING POLES – $20 \nBACKPACKING CHAIR – $50 \nBEARSPRAY – $25 \nIf travelling by plane to Fort Nelson/Fort St. John\, you will need to rent a fuel canister and bear spray\, as these items can’t be put on a plane.  \n\n\n\n FEE & REFUND POLICY\n \nFee: $2000 + TAXES \nTo secure your spot\, we kindly request a non-refundable deposit of $500. Take your time. \n9:00 AM — Morning golden hour wander. No destination\, just attention. \n9:30 AM — Day hike briefing. \n10:00 AM — Depart for the day hike\, exploring the broader Holzworth terrain. Participants must be 16 years of age or older to join this backpacking trip. \nHow do we get to the trailhead? Head to peakwyldco.ca/blog and look for “Backpacking list” for a complete breakdown of what to bring. Your guide will also confirm any specific gear requirements closer to the trip date. \n\nPack your bag and head into the backcountry for a weekend you won’t forget. This two-night backpacking adventure through Holzworth Meadows in Tumbler Ridge\, BC is designed for those ready to slow down\, go deep\, and come home changed. \nBefore you hit the trail\, we kick things off with a bear spray mini course — giving you the hands-on confidence to move through the wilderness the way it deserves to be moved through. A proper fossil handling session connects you to Tumbler Ridge’s extraordinary paleontological history\, because this landscape has been telling stories long before any of us arrived. \nFrom there\, you shoulder your pack and go. The route into Holzworth Meadows rewards every step — wildflowers threading through open alpine terrain\, ridgelines that earn their views\, and the particular quiet that only comes when you’ve carried everything you need on your own back. A dedicated plant identification interpreter joins the journey\, deepening your connection to the living world around you at every turn. Your guides carry a full first aid kit\, emergency supplies\, and a communication device throughout\, so you can move through the backcountry with confidence and peace of mind. \nTwo nights in the mountains means you actually get to be there. No rushing out before sunset. No packing up before you’re ready. Just mornings with coffee and a view\, and the rare gift of unhurried time in a place this wild. \nAs part of our commitment to this land and the people who protect it\, $5 from every booking is donated to the Wolverine Nordic & Mountain Society — helping preserve the trails and wild spaces that make weekends like this possible. Every guest also takes home a Peak Wyld Co. sticker to mark the occasion. \nDay 1: Arrival & Journey Into the Meadows \n9:00 AM — Arrive at the Tumbler Ridge Visitor Centre for check-in\, head count\, and pack check. This is also where we run through our bear spray mini course and fossil handling session\, so you’re heading into the backcountry informed and ready. \n9:30 AM — Depart for the Holzworth Meadows trailhead. \n10:00/11:00 AM — Boots on trail. As we gain elevation\, your plant interpreter begins weaving in flora identification — learning not just names\, but why each species grows exactly where it does. Aspect\, snowmelt timing\, soil — the landscape starts making sense in a new way. \n1:00 PM — Trailside lunch with a view. A good moment to pause\, look back at how far you’ve come\, and notice what’s blooming at this elevation versus where you started. \n3:30 PM — Arrive at the Holzworth Meadows campsite. Set up\, breathe it in. The meadows open up around you — wildflowers at peak summer bloom\, ridgelines in every direction. \n5:00 PM — Designated sit spot hour. \n6:00/7:00 PM — Dinner at camp\, with a wildflower twist. Edible flower garnishes where the land allows\, stories around the stove about the medicinal and cultural uses of what’s growing right outside your tent — fireweed\, yarrow\, arnica. \nEvening — Golden hour wanders at the meadow’s edge\, stargazing as dark settles in. The kind of night that makes you remember why you came. \n\nDay 2: Full Day in the Alpine \n8:00 AM — Breakfast at camp. Morning light on the meadows. Take your time. \n9:00 AM — Morning golden hour wander. No destination\, just attention. \n9:30 AM — Day hike briefing. \n10:00 AM — Depart for the day hike\, exploring the broader Holzworth terrain. Your interpreter is in full stride today — pollinator relationships\, sensory observations\, what the meadow smells like after morning dew. Peak bloom is a fleeting\, unrepeatable thing\, and today is the day to be fully inside it. \n12:30 PM — Lunch at a scenic viewpoint. Reflect on what you’ve identified\, what surprised you\, and what you want to remember. \n1:30 PM — Continue exploring. Additional trails\, fossil-rich terrain\, or simply wandering with open eyes. \n3:30/4:30 PM — Return to camp. Rest\, journal\, nap in the meadow — no agenda. \n6:00/7:00 PM — Dinner at camp. Evening conversation\, reflection\, and the kind of easy time that only happens when you’re two days into the backcountry and fully arrived. \nEvening — Final night stargazing. SUMMARY:Bootski Lake - Tumbler Ridge
DESCRIPTION:BOOTSKI LAKE – TUMBLER RIDGE\, BC.\nA short push into the alpine — and then the world opens up. \nGuided Day Hike. Tumbler Ridge Adventures. \n\n\n\nBOOK NOW\n \nAug. 16\, 2026 – 8:00 AM\nBootski Lake\nBootski Lake is one of those trails that earns every step. You’ll climb through forest and open alpine terrain\, gaining nearly 600 metres of elevation before the ridge breaks open and reveals a stunning high alpine lake tucked beneath dramatic cliff walls — brilliant blue\, wildly remote\, and worth every bit of effort it took to get there. \nAt nearly 1\,800 metres above sea level\, this is big sky\, big views\, and big northern BC energy. Pack your lunch\, pack your layers\, and if you’re feeling bold — pack your floatie. Summer up here is short and sweet\, and there’s no better way to celebrate the summit than with your feet (or your whole self) in that glacially cold water. \nThis is a challenging trail — approximately 11.6 km return with sustained steep sections — and one of the most rewarding day hikes in the Tumbler Ridge UNESCO Global Geopark. Our guides will get you there safely and make sure you leave knowing a whole lot more about the landscape around you. \n\nTrip at a glance\n\n\nDate: August 16\, 2026 — 8:00 AM\nLocation: Bootski Lake\, ~80 km southeast of Tumbler Ridge\, BC\nDistance: 11.6 km return\nApproximate Time: 5–7 hours\nElevation Gain: 565 m\nDifficulty: Challenging — recommended for hikers with a solid base fitness level\nAccess: Forest Service Road (high clearance recommended)\nPartner: Wolverine Nordic & Mountain Society\nCommunity Contribution: $5 from every booking is donated to the Wolverine Nordic & Mountain Society\n\n\n\nIncluded\n\nExperienced guide for the full day\nRoute navigation on steep and rocky alpine terrain\nA summer day exploring the Bootski Lake area\, Tumbler Ridge\, BC\nBear spray mini course\nPlant and ecosystem identification along the way\nGeology and Geopark context shared on trail\nPeak Wyld Co. sticker\nShared photo album from the day\nPre-trip communication with packing list and meeting details\nFirst aid kit\, emergency supplies\, and a satellite communication device carried by your guide\n$5 from every booking is donated to the Wolverine Nordic & Mountain Society\n\n\n\nFee & Cancellation Policy\n\nFee & Booking \n$65.00 + GST. A processing fee may apply for credit card payments. \nBook Online: Click the BOOK NOW button at the top of the page to reserve your spot by credit card. \nPay by E-Transfer: Prefer to pay by e-transfer? Send us a DM to get registered — we’ll collect a few details for our booking system and get you set up. Send transfers to jocelyn@peakwyldco.ca (auto-deposit enabled). \n\nCancellation Policy \nBecause outdoor adventures involve real upfront costs\, day hike bookings are non-refundable. That said\, we want to work with you — if you need to cancel 5 or more days before the trip\, we’ll issue a full credit toward a future Peak Wyld Co. adventure. \nCancellations made within 5 days of the event are not eligible for a credit. Spots are limited\, so the earlier you let us know\, the better. \nWhat if Peak Wyld Co. cancels? If we cancel due to unforeseen circumstances or an act of God\, your payment will be credited to a future date. If the Bootski Lake trip doesn’t reach the minimum number of participants\, you’ll receive a full refund. \nWe always do our best to reach our destination — but please be aware that weather\, road\, and safety conditions in the backcountry can occasionally change our plans. That’s the nature of the north\, and we appreciate your understanding. \n\n\nFrequently Asked Questions\nWho is this hike for? This hike is suited for people who are reasonably active and comfortable hiking uphill on steep\, rocky terrain. Bootski Lake is not a beginner trail — this is a challenging backcountry route with significant elevation gain. Strong beginners are welcome with the understanding that this is rugged northern terrain and you should expect to work for that view. \nIs there signage on the trail? Partially. The lower section of the trail is flagged with orange flagging tape through the burned area. Above the treeline\, route-finding skills are required — but don’t worry\, that’s what your guide is there for. \nWhat’s the road like to get there? The access road is the Ojay Main Road\, a gravel Forest Service Road south of Tumbler Ridge. High clearance is recommended. We’ll send full driving directions and road notes before the event date. Please note this is a radio-controlled industrial road — your guide will provide details on radio use and protocol. \nWhat if the weather is bad? Light rain won’t cancel us — northern BC is wet sometimes\, and that’s part of it. Above treeline\, conditions can change fast\, so come prepared with layers and rain gear regardless of the forecast. If the weather creates a genuine safety concern\, we will notify you as early as possible and work with you on rebooking or a credit. \nIs bear spray mandatory? No\, but it is strongly recommended that everyone carry their own bear spray. We will conduct a bear spray mini course at the start of the day. This is active grizzly bear country — we take wildlife safety seriously. \nAre there washroom facilities on trail? Yes — there is an outhouse at Bootski Lake. On the trail up\, we follow cathole practices. Your guide will review Leave No Trace protocols at the start of the day. \nHow long is the drive to the trailhead? The trailhead is approximately 80 km southeast of Tumbler Ridge\, with a portion on gravel forest road. Budget roughly 1.5 hours of drive time from town. We meet at 8:00 AM and make our way out together — your guide will send a full logistics email ahead of the trip. \nCan I bring my dog? Dogs are not permitted on this guided tour. The terrain is steep and remote\, and we want to keep the group moving safely through grizzly habitat. \nWhat should I eat beforehand? Eat a solid breakfast before you go — this is a long day with a lot of elevation. Bring a full trail lunch\, snacks\, and a minimum of 2 litres of water. There is no reliable water source until you reach the lake. \nCan I swim in the lake? You absolutely can — pack your floatie if you’re feeling bold. The water is glacially cold and incredibly clear. A summer dip at nearly 1\,800 metres above sea level is an experience you won’t forget. \n\n\nWhat to pack\nPack \n\n20–30L daypack\nRain cover for daypack (optional but recommended)\n\nFootwear & Clothing \n\nSturdy\, broken-in hiking boots with ankle support\nMoisture-wicking hiking shirt — long sleeves recommended for sun protection\nHiking shorts or pants\nWaterproof rain jacket and pants\nWarm mid-layer (fleece or puffy)\nExtra socks\, gloves\, and a toque/buff — weather changes fast up here\nGaiters (optional\, great for creek crossings)\nChange of clothes waiting for you in the car\n\nFood & Water \n\n2–3L of water (hydration bladder + water bottle recommended)\nHigh-energy snacks\nPacked lunch\n\nSun & Bug Protection \n\nSunscreen\nSunglasses\nHat\nLip balm\nBug spray\n\nSafety & Essentials \n\nHeadlamp + extra batteries\nPersonal first aid kit\nEmergency shelter (emergency blanket)\nMatches and fire starter\nMulti-tool or knife\nToilet paper\nBear spray\nTrekking poles (optional but recommended\, especially on the descent)\n\n\nYour guide will carry the group’s core survival and safety equipment — but building the habit of carrying your own essentials is one of the best things you can do as a backcountry traveller. Extra clothing is one of the Ten Essentials for a reason: be prepared to be out longer than planned and for conditions to shift. \n\n\nFUN FACTS ABOUT BOOTSKI LAKE\n🏔 It sits at nearly 1\,800 metres above sea level — that’s higher than most peaks in eastern Canada. You’re genuinely up there. \n🌊 The lake is a high alpine tarn — meaning it was formed by glacial activity\, carved out over thousands of years by ice. That brilliant blue colour? That’s the real deal. \n❄️ Snow can show up any month of the year at this elevation. July hikers have reported snowpack near the lake. Always pack your layers. \n🐻 Grizzly bears are regulars in this area. Sow grizzlies with cubs have been spotted on the trail — a good reminder that you’re a guest in their home. \n🌿 The 2006 wildfire that burned through the lower slopes actually created incredible habitat diversity. What looks like a scarred hillside is buzzing with new growth\, wildflowers\, and wildlife. \n🦕 You’re hiking inside a UNESCO Global Geopark — one of only a handful in Canada. The rock walls surrounding the lake are hundreds of millions of years old. Dinosaurs roamed this region long before we did. \n🎒 The trail is maintained entirely by volunteers from the Wolverine Nordic & Mountain Society. Every $5 donation from your booking goes directly back to keeping this trail accessible. \n📸 The ridge above the lake offers views of Mount Becker and its subpeak — one of the most dramatic vantage points in the southern Peace Region. \n🥶 That water is cold. Like\, really cold. But people swim in it anyway — and they always say it was worth it. \n\n\n\nDate: August 16\, 2026 — 8:00 AM\nLocation: Bootski Lake\, ~80 km southeast of Tumbler Ridge\, BC\nDistance: 11.6 km return\nApproximate Time: 5–7 hours\nElevation Gain: 565 m\nDifficulty: Challenging — recommended for hikers with a solid base fitness level\nAccess: Forest Service Road (high clearance recommended)\nPartner: Wolverine Nordic & Mountain Society\nCommunity Contribution: $5 from every booking is donated to the Wolverine Nordic & Mountain Society\n\n\nExperienced guide for the full day\nRoute navigation on steep and rocky alpine terrain\nA summer day exploring the Bootski Lake area\, Tumbler Ridge\, BC\nBear spray mini course\nPlant and ecosystem identification along the way\nGeology and Geopark context shared on trail\nPeak Wyld Co. sticker\nShared photo album from the day\nPre-trip communication with packing list and meeting details\nFirst aid kit\, emergency supplies\, and a satellite communication device carried by your guide\n$5 from every booking is donated to the Wolverine Nordic & Mountain Society\n\n\nFee & Booking \n$65.00 + GST. \nWho is this hike for? \nPack \n\n20–30L daypack\nRain cover for daypack (optional but recommended)\n\nFootwear & Clothing \n\nSturdy\, broken-in hiking boots with ankle support\nMoisture-wicking hiking shirt — long sleeves recommended for sun protection\nHiking shorts or pants\nWaterproof rain jacket and pants\nWarm mid-layer (fleece or puffy)\nExtra socks\, gloves\, and a toque/buff — weather changes fast up here\nGaiters (optional\, great for creek crossings)\nChange of clothes waiting for you in the car\n\nFood & Water \n\n2–3L of water (hydration bladder + water bottle recommended)\nHigh-energy snacks\nPacked lunch\n\nSun & Bug Protection \n\nSunscreen\nSunglasses\nHat\nLip balm\nBug spray\n\nSafety & Essentials \n\nHeadlamp + extra batteries\nPersonal first aid kit\nEmergency shelter (emergency blanket)\nMatches and fire starter\nMulti-tool or knife\nToilet paper\nBear spray\nTrekking poles (optional but recommended\, especially on the descent)\n\n\nYour guide will carry the group’s core survival and safety equipment — but building the habit of carrying your own essentials is one of the best things you can do as a backcountry traveller. Extra clothing is one of the Ten Essentials for a reason: be prepared to be out longer than planned and for conditions to shift. \n🏔 It sits at nearly 1\,800 metres above sea level — that’s higher than most peaks in eastern Canada. \n\nBOOK NOW
