That’s the nature of the north\, and we appreciate your understanding. \n\n\n\n FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS\n \nWho is this hike for? This hike is for experienced hikers with solid cardiovascular fitness. The 540m elevation gain and 6-hour timeframe make it more demanding than an average day hike. If you’re newer to hiking\, we’d recommend starting with Le Hudette Lakes (June 20) and working up to this one. \nIs there a trail? No. Mount Stephenson is a backcountry route\, currently marked with orange flagging tape. Our guide has experience on this terrain and will lead navigation throughout the day. \nWhat’s the road access like? Access is via a decent dirt/gravel Forest Service Road. Driving directions and road notes will be sent to all registered participants before the event date. \nWhat if the weather turns? We operate in northern BC — we don’t run from clouds or light rain. If weather creates a genuine safety risk\, we will make that call early and communicate clearly. If Peak Wyld Co. cancels\, your payment is credited toward a future date. \nIs this suitable for beginners? Honestly\, no. This is rugged\, unmarked alpine terrain with significant elevation gain. We want everyone to have a great experience — and that means being honest that this one is for people who have spent real time in the backcountry. \nIs bear spray mandatory? No\, but it is always recommended that everyone carry bear spray.  \n\n\n\n WHAT TO PACK\n \nPack \n\n20–30L daypack\nRain cover for daypack (optional but recommended)\n\nFootwear & Clothing \n\nSturdy\, broken-in hiking boots with ankle support\nMoisture-wicking hiking shirt — long sleeves recommended for sun protection\nHiking shorts or pants\nWaterproof rain jacket and pants\nWarm mid-layer (fleece or puffy)\nExtra socks\, gloves\, and a toque/buff — weather changes fast up here\nGaiters (optional\, great for creek crossings)\nChange of clothes waiting for you in the car\n\nFood & Water \n\n2–3L of water (hydration bladder + water bottle recommended)\nHigh-energy snacks\nPacked lunch\n\nSun & Bug Protection \n\nSunscreen\nSunglasses\nHat\nLip balm\nBug spray\n\nSafety & Essentials \n\nHeadlamp + extra batteries\nPersonal first aid kit\nEmergency shelter (emergency blanket)\nMatches and fire starter\nMulti-tool or knife\nToilet paper\nBear spray\nTrekking poles (optional but recommended\, especially on the descent)\n\n\nYour guide will carry the group’s core survival and safety equipment — but building the habit of carrying your own essentials is one of the best things you can do as a backcountry traveller. We’ll then shuttle back to the trailhead\, with departure scheduled for 9:00 AM\, and enjoy a scenic hour-long ride. \n\n\n\n FREQUENTLY ASKED TRIP QUESTIONS \n \nHow is the water?Water availability is not an issue on this trip. We recommend bringing a 2L hydration bladder along with a 1L water bottle for ease of carrying. Once at the lake\, we strongly advise filtering the water\, as it can sometimes appear discoloured due to weather conditions. River runoff may also affect clarity\, so carrying a water filter is essential for backcountry safety. \nWhere do we meet?Participants will gather at the Fort Nelson Visitor Centre at 10:00 AM on July 17\, 2026. \nAre campfires permitted every night?Campfire availability is contingent upon the current wildfire situation. It is crucial to be aware of any fire bans that may be in effect. In some areas along the trail\, campfires may not be allowed regardless of the ban status. \nWhat are the bathroom facilities?Participants will be responsible for creating catholes\, which must be dug at least 200 feet (60 meters) away from water sources\, trails\, and campsites. We encourage the buddy system when venturing away from camp and advise carrying bear spray. As a camp rule\, if you use the bathroom\, please return with a stick for the fire. An outhouse is available at Wokkpash Lake. \nHow many guides will be present? One experienced guide will accompany the group throughout the trip\, providing support and expertise. They will carry an In-Reach Satellite communication device for two-way messaging and emergency contact with helicopter support\, ensuring safety in the unlikely event of an emergency. \nCan we go on day hikes?Participants are required to remain with the group and are not permitted to embark on day hikes or other solo adventures. We prioritize group cohesion and visibility\, and any changes to this policy will be communicated by the guide. Rain days may allow for day hikes\, depending on weather conditions. \nWill a detailed itinerary be provided?Yes\, we will issue a detailed itinerary outlining our day-to-day activities. However\, please note that river levels and weather conditions can significantly impact our plans\, as flooding may occasionally render certain routes impassable. \nWhat should we know about bears and wildlife? We adhere to stringent bear safety protocols while travelling in groups. The trail is shared with various wildlife\, including both small and large game. Previous trips have encountered porcupines and marmots. Participants should store their supplies in dry bags\, as food storage can be challenging. Guides will carry protective measures\, including a firearm\, and food will be stored away from camp whenever possible. Bear caches are located along the trail\, including one at Wokkpash Lake.  \nAre dogs allowed on the trip?No pets\, including dogs\, are permitted on this trip. Only guides may bring their dogs. \nWhat if the plane cannot land due to weather conditions? The weather in mountainous regions can be unpredictable\, and flight cancellations may occur. We prepare for such scenarios by packing an extra day’s worth of food. Two planes will be scheduled to transport participants from Wokkpash Lake to Muncho Lake\, but we cannot guarantee both will operate on the same day. We recommend not booking return flights for the same day and allowing an additional day or two in case of delays. After checking in\, we’ll embark on a scenic 1.5-hour drive to the trailhead. Expect a relaxed morning as we adjust our packs\, weigh our gear\, and participate in a bear spray course while reviewing essential safety precautions before hitting the trail. \nDays 2-7: Each day will begin with packing up and hitting the trail by 10 AM\, unless otherwise noted by the guide. Weather will play a significant role in our daily activities\, allowing us ample time to reach Wokkpash Lake without rushing. We’ll tackle the trails at our own pace\, covering approximately 5-10 KM per day\, with no strict distance requirements. \nDay 8: We’ll make one trip from Wokkpash Lake to Muncho Lake\, BC. Upon arrival\, you’ll receive your room key (rooms will be shared\, two per room). After settling in\, enjoy a delicious homemade pizza meal before heading to the Liard River Hot Springs for a rejuvenating soak in the natural hot springs. Upon returning to the Lodge\, indulge in a three-course dinner prepared by the local chef—menu details will be provided before the trip. We’ll wrap up the evening with a stroll to a local honey hole on the lake with the group. \nDay 9: Savor a delightful breakfast and coffee at 8:00 AM to conclude our adventure. We’ll then shuttle back to the trailhead\, with departure scheduled for 9:00 AM\, and enjoy a scenic hour-long ride. \nHow is the water?Water availability is not an issue on this trip. Consider securing trip insurance for your travel arrangements. \nIs there cell service on the trail? There is no cell service available while on the trail. If you possess a satellite communication device\, we encourage you to bring it along. Once we arrive at the lodge\, you will be provided with Wi-Fi access. Please note that phone use is discouraged during dinner to foster group interaction and enjoyment of the natural surroundings. \nCommunicationPeak Wyld Co utilizes satellite email systems for emergency communication\, specifically Inreach Garmin devices. \nLiability InsurancePeak Wyld Co holds liability insurance as mandated by the conditions of the Park Use Permit. Every guest receives their Peak Wyld Co. sticker — a small marker of something that felt anything but small. \nGreat news — the Tumbler Ridge Geopark actually documents the specific species at Holzworth. Here’s what you can expect: \nConfirmed at Holzworth Meadows (directly from the Geopark records): \nThe moist meadows are a blaze of colour in summer\, with Arctic Lupine\, Mountain Monkshood\, Subalpine Buttercup\, Tall Larkspur\, Tall Bluebell\, Indian Paintbrush\, and White Bog-Orchid among the species filling the lush environment between forests of Engelmann Spruce and Subalpine Fir. \nFee: $275.00 + GST + Processing Fee \nPlease note that processing fees may apply for credit card payments. \nHow to Pay and Book: To secure your spot\, click the “BOOK NOW” button at the top of the page to proceed with credit card payment. A non-refundable deposit of $150.00 is required at the time of booking to hold your place on the trip. The remaining balance is due by July 1st. \nIf you prefer to pay via e-transfer\, please send us a direct message to register. We will require some information for our booking system. E-transfers should be sent to jocelyn@peakwyldco.ca — auto deposit is enabled. \nWhat if the Trip is Canceled Due to Unforeseen Circumstances? In the event of a cancellation due to acts of God\, your credit will be transferred to a future date. If the trip does not reach the minimum number of participants\, you will receive a full refund\, including your deposit. \nCancellation Policy: Due to the nature of multi-day backpacking adventures and the upfront costs involved\, the $150.00 deposit is non-refundable under all circumstances. \nIf you need to cancel\, please do so at least 5 days in advance of the trip departure date. Cancellations made 5 or more days before the trip will receive a full refund of any amounts paid beyond the deposit. \nCancellations made within 0–5 days of the trip will not be eligible for any refund or future credit on the remaining balance paid. We appreciate your understanding and encourage you to give as much notice as possible\, as spots are limited. \nPlease note that weather and safety considerations may occasionally affect the planned route or itinerary. We strive to deliver an exceptional backcountry experience and will always communicate any changes as early as possible. \nWhere do we meet? Participants will meet at the Tumbler Ridge Visitor Centre at 9:00 AM on July 24th. Address: 265 Southgate St\, Tumbler Ridge\, BC V0C 2W0. \nHow much water should I carry? It is recommended to pack a minimum of 2 litres of water for the trail. Hydration bladders are particularly effective in the summer months. A water filter will be provided by your guide for refilling at water sources along the route. \nAre dogs allowed? Unfortunately\, dogs are not permitted on this trip\, except for the guide’s dog. \nIs it a women-only trip? No\, our backpacking trips are inclusive and everyone is welcome to join! \nIs it beginner-friendly? This trip is suitable for those with some hiking experience and a good base level of fitness. The terrain includes challenging sections with elevation gain\, and participants should be comfortable carrying a loaded pack and walking for extended periods over multiple days. Please note the route is rated moderate to challenging due to its distance and backcountry nature. \nCan children join? Participants must be 16 years of age or older to join this backpacking trip. \nHow do we get to the trailhead? We will coordinate a carpool led by the guide from the Visitor Centre to the trailhead. \nWhat if the roads are bad? Meeting at the Tumbler Ridge Visitor Centre at 9:00 AM allows ample time to reach the trailhead. Please drive at your own pace and ensure you have the guide’s contact number saved in your phone in case you encounter any issues along the way. \nWhere can I go to the bathroom? Restroom facilities are available at the Visitor Centre before departure. In the backcountry\, your guide will walk you through Leave No Trace waste practices — this is part of the experience. \nIs Peak Wyld Co responsible for my vehicle during the trip? No\, participants are responsible for their own vehicles while driving to and from the trailhead. Peak Wyld Co is not liable for any damages incurred to vehicles while driving or parked at the trailhead. \nWhat should I pack? We’ve put together a full backpacking packing list on our blog to help you prepare for your adventure. Head to peakwyldco.ca/blog and look for “Backpacking list” for a complete breakdown of what to bring. DESCRIPTION:Wyld — 3-Day Backcountry Traverse · July 31–Aug 2\, 2026\n\n\n\n \n\n Wyld \n\nItinerary\nDetails\nGallery\nFAQ\nBook Now\n\n\n \n\nWyld Backcountry  ·  Canadian Rockies  ·  July 31 – August 2\, 2026 \nGo Wyldin the Range\nA 3-day guided backcountry traverse through alpine meadows\, ancient forests\, glacial valleys — and a legendary tunnel through the mountain itself. \n \n Reserve Your Spot\n \n \n Scroll\n\n\n 22km\n Total Distance\n 3\n Days Wyld\n 1\n Mountain Tunnel\n 8\n Max Group Size\n \n\nThe Wyld Experience \nWhere the trail ends\,the Wyld begins\nFor three days you’ll carry everything you need into one of the most spectacular corners of the Canadian Rockies — a landscape of cathedral peaks\, wildflower-smothered ridgelines\, and glacial streams so clear you can count every stone on the bottom. \nThe Wyld route threads through old-growth forest\, climbs above treeline to a secret tunnel carved through solid rock by millennia of frost and water\, then descends through valley meadows blazing with summer colour. Small groups\, no crowds. Just the mountains and the people beside you. \n 🚗\n Trailhead Vehicle Info\n We encourage everyone to carpool and arrive with as few vehicles as possible — the less at the trailhead\, the better. Sara will be able to take a few participants from the Visitor Centre\, so reach out ahead of time to coordinate. Snowfencing is available from the Visitor Centre for those leaving vehicles there.\n \n\n \n\nWyld Itinerary \nThree Days. Three Worlds.\n \n \n Day 01\n Friday\, July 31 \nInto the Forest\nWe meet at the Visitor Centre for check-in\, bear spray orientation\, and a shuttle to the trailhead. From there we push into old-growth subalpine forest — ferns brushing our knees\, light filtering through canopies of spruce and fir. Day one is about finding your Wyld rhythm: weight on your back\, the smell of damp moss\, elevation rising steadily around you. Camp tonight beside a rushing glacial stream. \n 📍 7 km\n ↑ +620 m\n ⏱ 3–4 hrs\n 📷 Court Jacobs @court_the_original\n \n \n Day 02\n Saturday\, August 1 \nThe Tunnel Climb\nThe centrepiece of the Wyld traverse. A sustained climb through open alpine pushes you higher until the mountain reveals its secret: a natural tunnel worn through solid rock\, its arched opening framing an impossible panorama of snow-patched summits and deep green valleys below. \n “Step through the tunnel and the whole range opens up in front of you. One of those moments you don’t forget.” \nAfter the summit ridge\, descend into the next valley. Tonight’s camp sits under a sky with no light pollution for 100 kilometres in any direction. \n 📍 9 km\n ↑ +860 m\n ⏱ 6–7 hrs\n 📷 Antonio Sunción @AntonioSunción\n \n \n Day 03\n Sunday\, August 2 \nThe Trek Home\nThe final day carries you back through the heart of it all. A morning traverse of wildflower-covered ridgelines — the whole three-day route spread out behind you in one sweeping glance. Rocky meadows give way to subalpine switchbacks\, then forest\, then the shuttle back to the Visitor Centre. \nThe mountains will look the same as when you left. You won’t be. That’s Wyld. \n 📍 6 km\n ↓ –1\,480 m\n ⏱ 4–5 hrs\n 📷 Court Jacobs @court_the_original\n Book Now — Register Here\n\n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \nPhotography by Court Jacobs @court_the_original  ·  Antonio Sunción @AntonioSunción \n\n \n\nTrip Details \nEverything you needto go Wyld\nTrip Specs\n\nDatesJuly 31 – August 2\, 2026\nDuration3 Days / 2 Nights\nTotal Distance~22 km\nDay 17 km · +620 m · 3–4 hrs\nDay 29 km · +860 m · 6–7 hrs\nDay 36 km · –1\,480 m · 4–5 hrs\nDifficultyModerate / Challenging\nMax Group Size8 participants\nMin Age18 years\n\nWhat’s Included\n\nWyld-certified expert guide throughout\nBear spray mini-course at the Visitor Centre\nCarpooling encouraged — Sara can take a few participants from the Visitor Centre\nSnowfencing available at the Visitor Centre for parked vehicles\nAll backcountry permits\nGuide carries full first aid kit\, emergency supplies & communication device\nWater filter for backcountry refills\nPre-trip gear consultation\n$5 per booking donated to Wolverine Nordic & Mountain Society\nPeak Wyld Co. sticker — a small marker of something that felt anything but small\n\nFitness & Experience\n\nFitness levelModerate–High\nPrior backpacking exp.Recommended\nPack weight (typical)14–18 kg\nTerrainTrail\, Scree\, Alpine\, Rock Tunnel\n\nPricing & Payment\n\nPer person$275 CAD + GST\nNon-refundable deposit$150 CAD at booking\nBalance dueJuly 1\, 2026\nBookings after July 1Full payment required\nPay by credit cardBook Now ↗\nPay by e-transferjocelyn@peakwyldco.ca\n\nCancellation Policy\n\nDepositNon-refundable\nCancel 5+ days beforeFull refund of balance\nCancel 0–5 days beforeNo refund on balance\nBookings after July 1Full payment\, no refund\nTrip cancelled by WyldCredit to future date\nMin. participants not metFull refund incl. deposit\n\nMeeting Point\n\nLocationTumbler Ridge Visitor Centre\nAddress265 Southgate St\, Tumbler Ridge BC\nCheck-in9:00 AM\, July 31\nShuttle departs9:30 AM\nEstimated return~3:00 PM\, August 2\n\n\n \n\nFrequently Asked Questions \nGot questions? We’ve got answers.\n Where do we meet?\n At the Tumbler Ridge Visitor Centre at 9:00 AM on July 31st.
