Come lace up and join us for a fall tour into Bergeron Cliffs 🍂

We’re catching the last of the golden leaves and those end-of-season fall mountain views before winter settles in. This local favourite trail is close to Tumbler Ridge and offers quiet forest paths, a steady climb, and a panoramic reward at the top you won’t forget.

We’ll travel through aspen and pine forests before topping out on the Bergeron Cliffs, overlooking the Murray River Valley, Tumbler Ridge, and the Hart Ranges. The climb is steady, the conversations are always good, and the views hit you right in the soul.

I truly love this event. The relationships. The inspiration. The new friends who become future collaborators. And of course, those familiar faces you can’t wait to reconnect with and talk shop—because who doesn’t love sharing their favourite trails, rivers, or wild little corners of the world?

Charlie & Nellie McDonald - where their story begins.

The McDonald family — a family rooted deep in the Wyld North. Year after year I trek back into the McDonald Valley, and now I have the honour of working closely with the McDonald family through the work we do today. Their story is one I never get tired of telling. The banks of the Toad River hold more history, grit, and heart than a lifetime of campfires could ever share.

We had the privilege of touring with the McDonald family, and their legacy now continues with @highcountryxmooselake . I can’t wait to head back in and bring people along to experience their story for themselves.

On that tour we:
– Paddleboarded alongside wild horses — some of the last truly wild horses left in the world, their genetics as raw and powerful as the land they roam.
– Hiked to the West Toad, following a trail still used today by an Elder and Brad for their “town days.”
– Boated across Moose Lake, now protected as a sanctuary so moose can safely roam the flats.
– Shared home-cooked meals made by family, the kind you feel in your bones.
– Sat in silence with mountains that hold generations of stories.

This trip isn’t just a tour — it’s a connection to a living legacy. Every mile, every trail, every story is tied to the family who carved a life here long before roads and maps reached this north.

If you want to dive deeper into their story, there’s even a book about the McDonald family you can pick up at gas stations along the Alaska Highway or at the Fort Nelson Visitor Centre — highly recommend.

I’m beyond grateful to continue working with families like this — families who live by their values, protect their land, and share their way of life with heart and purpose.

We can’t wait to head back and tour again with Brad at High Country Expeditions. From quad tours to culture camps to weekend wilderness trips — they’re keeping northern roots alive, just the way it should be.

Happy Thanksgiving to you all 🤎

Around here, our traditions look a little different—like a family chicken hunt. With Dad on shift, Wyld man and I headed out last night in search of some wild chickens. Last year we harvested enough to last until January/February, which was a huge win for stir-fry nights. Small things like that feel big when you live this way.

Grateful doesn’t even begin to cover it. This little life of ours—rooted in the wild, run by the seasons, fuelled by hard work and heart—it means everything to us. It’s not always easy, and it’s definitely not conventional, but it’s ours. And that in itself is the biggest blessing.

The snow is starting to blanket the north and we’re already dreaming of what’s to come—ice fishing, sledding to remote cabins, firewood crackling, winter adventures with the people who matter most.

Thankful for a life that lets us live close to the land. Thankful for the freedom to raise our family wild. Thankful for memories over money. Thankful for love, adventure and simplicity.

This life—we choose it, we build it, we love it. And that, to me, is real wealth.

Grateful beyond words. 🏔️❄️🖤

There are trails that challenge you, and then there are trails that ground you. As our winter schedule arrives, Babcock Seeps returns—the one that just feels right for the soul.

The pace is slow here. The creek winds gently through the creek and the ice seeps form along the rocks like frozen waterfalls. It’s the kind of place that reminds you that winter isn’t something to endure… it’s something to explore.

On this cross-country ski tour, we’ll move at a comfortable rhythm, stopping to take in the quiet views, the sparkle of snow on the spruce branches, and that big winter sky that just keeps on going.

This morning at school drop-off Laura said, “Heading for the hills—coming?”

All I had on were Blundstones, no water, absolutely zero plan. But thank goodness Laura had a spare pair of socks so I could double up, and one of the kids had a half-full water bottle in the backseat—so yes, we shared lemonade like champions.

3 km later, 180m of gain, lungs burning on the climb to the tower…and it turned into the most perfect random afternoon adventure I never knew I needed.

Sometimes the unplanned days are the ones that hit the heart just right. The day we both needed. 🤍

This game of life can weigh heavy on the heart. You carry more into the woods than you ever carry out—and not everyone will understand that, and that’s okay.

We go to these places for the silence, for the reminder that it’s okay to just be. Out here, away from the noise, we see what really matters—the people who hold space in our lives, the memories stitched into our hearts, and the purpose we sometimes lose track of.

I chase this feeling because the wilderness has become my church. These mountains, these valleys—this is where I go to listen. Because the silence out here speaks louder than any advice ever could.

Some people will never understand this feeling, and that’s okay. To the ones who do—cheers. I’ll meet you somewhere between the sunrise and the summit.
