The Lakes
Rare & Wild
An ecological reserve just north of town — one of the few places in BC where you can paddle among active pitcher plants and catch 80+ bird species in a single evening. No fishing, no foraging; just wilderness at its quietest.
From Fort Nelson, head north on Highway 97 (Alaska Highway) for approximately 9 km past the north end of town.
Turn LEFT (west) onto the gravel access road. Drive 2 km to the lake.
Into the Boreal
A non-motorized lake tucked into the boreal forest south of Fort Nelson. Beaver dams anchor both ends, pike cruise the shallows, and in late August the birch starts to turn gold. The 12 km gravel road in is part of the adventure.
From Fort Nelson, head south on Highway 97 (Alaska Highway) for 27.6 km.
Turn LEFT onto the gravel access road. Drive 12 km to the lake — allow approximately 20 minutes on gravel. The road is well-traveled but unpaved; a standard vehicle is fine in dry conditions.
Northern Neighbourhood Night
A Fort Nelson local favourite — warm, calm, and perfectly sized for a social evening on the water. Borrow Pit #8 is the easy entry point for first-timers and the go-to spot when you just want to get out and enjoy a northern summer night with good company.
Borrow Pit #8 is located south of Fort Nelson. Your reservation confirmation includes a Google Maps link directly to the launch location.

Per Person. Come walk around the area if you're not into paddling. Andy Bailey and Parker Lake have some little walks to explore and identify plants. We have interpreter cards ready to be explored to help you identify. Borrow Pit #8 is next to the highway with a little trail around it.
