Cross-country skiing on a frozen mountain lake offers a unique and exhilarating experience. Picture a vast expanse of snow-covered ice, stretching far into the distance, surrounded by majestic snow-capped mountains. The sky is a crisp, clear blue, and the sun glints off the icy surface, creating a dazzling sparkle.

As you glide across the lake, the sound of skis slicing through the powdery snow fills the air, accompanied by the gentle crunch beneath your feet. Guiding you through this winter wonderland. You can feel the cool, refreshing air on your face, invigorating your spirit as you navigate the serene landscape.

The surrounding mountains provide a stunning backdrop, their towering peaks creating a sense of isolation and tranquility. Occasionally, you might catch a glimpse of wildlife, like the iconic wood bison or a boreal woodland caribou , adding to the beauty of the scene. The experience is both peaceful and exhilarating, combining the thrill of skiing with the breathtaking beauty of nature. It’s a perfect blend of exercise and exploration, making it an unforgettable winter activity.

Expect a warm and inviting atmosphere with rustic décor, wooden beams, stone fireplaces, and comfortable furnishings that create a cozy retreat.

 

Start your adventure by making your way to the mountain lodge. Relish the scenic drive, taking in the breathtaking landscapes along the route. Keep an eye out for the newly upgraded signs and storytelling features along the Alaska Highway; they add a unique touch to your journey—don’t forget to check them out if you need to make a restroom stop!

Take a brief break at a viewpoint or a cozy café in Fort Nelson to stretch your legs and grab a snack.

You can check in at Northern Rockies Lodge anytime after 3:00 PM.

At 7:00 PM, head to the dining area for a delightful three-course dinner. Savor the expertly prepared dishes while enjoying the inviting ambiance of the lodge.

As night falls, the mountains offer a spectacular backdrop for stargazing, and if you’re lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of the northern lights.

Finally, retreat to your room to unwind. Consider enjoying a nightcap or curling up with a good book before you drift off to sleep.

Begin your morning with a hearty breakfast to fuel your day. Get ready to head outside and embark on a cross-country skiing adventure around Muncho Lake. After enjoying the beautiful scenery, we’ll return to the lodge for a warm lunch and some time to relax. Once we’ve recharged, we’ll set out again for another skiing session on the lake.

Morning Session – Living with Intention

Grab your yoga mat, blanket, fresh cup of coffee, journal, and pen, and join us in the Zen Den for an icebreaker session. Share a bit about yourself and your reasons for being here. 

We’ll start the day with intention.  Together, we’ll work on building your morning ritual and getting grounded. Next, you’ll have individual 20-minute Reiki sessions for clearings, followed by some time to relax in the hot springs.

Evening Session – Letting Go of What No Longer Serves You

Join us for a letting go exercise designed to free your energy. 

Fire and Release

Take your time waking up and enjoying the peaceful atmosphere of the mountain lodge. Savor the last moments in this beautiful setting. After breakfast, gather with everyone for a reflection circle. Share your favorite moments from the trip, lessons learned, and experiences that stood out. This is a wonderful way to connect with others and celebrate the time spent together. Begin your drive home, reflecting on the memories made during your stay.

Total Fee: $1450 + TAX 

Non-Refundable Deposit: $500 (to be paid at the time of booking)

Payment Deadline: Full payment must be made by January 25, 2025.

Refund Eligibility: No refunds will be issued after January 25, 2025.

Liard River Hot Springs is a stunning natural attraction located in the northern part of British Columbia, Canada, along the Alaska Highway. Known for its beautiful and serene environment, the hot springs are nestled within a lush forested area, providing visitors with a peaceful retreat. The hot springs consist of two main pools filled with mineral-rich thermal waters. The temperatures vary, with one pool being hotter than the other, allowing guests to choose their preferred level of warmth. The water is known for its soothing properties, offering a relaxing experience for those looking to unwind. Overall, Liard River Hot Springs offers a unique blend of relaxation, natural beauty, and rejuvenation, making it a must-visit destination for those traveling through northern British Columbia.

 

WHAT TO PACK?

Here’s a packing list for your mountain cross-country ski trip and a visit to Liard River Hot Springs:

Clothing:

  1. Base Layers:
    • Moisture-wicking long-sleeve tops and bottoms
    • Thermal underwear
    • Comfy clothes for the cabin meet-ups. 
  2. Mid Layers:
    • Insulating fleece or wool sweaters
    • Lightweight down jacket or insulated vest
  3. Outer Layers:
    • Waterproof and windproof ski jacket
    • Waterproof ski pants
  4. Ski Gear:
    • Cross-country ski boots
    • Skis and poles (if not renting)
    • Ski socks (preferably wool or synthetic)
  5. Accessories:
    • Warm hat or beanie
    • Neck gaiter or balaclava
    • Ski gloves or mittens (waterproof)
    • Liner gloves (for added warmth)
    • Goggles or sunglasses (with UV protection)

Footwear:

  • Insulated, waterproof boots for walking around the lodge
  • Flip-flops or sandals for the hot springs
  • Slippers for cabin.

Swim Gear for Hot Springs:

  • Swimsuit
  • Quick-dry towel
  • Waterproof bag for wet items

Other Essentials:

  • Sunscreen (high SPF)
  • Lip balm with SPF
  • Hydration system or water bottle
  • Snacks (energy bars, trail mix)
  • Camera or phone for photos

Laura DeSchipper is an intuitive Reiki healer who will share her passion for the outdoors while offering one-on-one Reiki healing sessions throughout the weekend. She holds a Master’s degree in Usui Reiki and is also certified in Mediumship. Having grown up in Toad River, BC, Laura now resides in Fort St. John, BC, with her husband, their wonderful sons Ryder and Rowdy, and their beloved pet Remi.

Laura is deeply passionate about nature, enjoying activities such as hiking, snowshoeing, and cooking, as well as spending quality time with friends and family. The mountains are where she finds the most joy. Additionally, she has a love for cooking in remote hunting camps during the fall months of July to October in both British Columbia and the Northwest Territories. For Laura, any day spent in the mountains is a good day.

In her practice, she embraces the Reiki principles: “Just for today, I will not worry, I will not be angry, I will work honestly, I will be grateful, and I will be kind to others.”

Jocelyn is the owner of Peak Wyld Co and a professional hiking guide who will lead us through the expansive wilderness of the Muskwa Kechika. With 10 years of successful guiding experience, she has hosted numerous retreats. Jocelyn spent her formative years exploring the Northern Rockies with her family, and this childhood passion evolved into a deep commitment to remote wilderness travel.

As an outdoor enthusiast, Jocelyn is dedicated to inspiring others to embrace the beauty of nature. Her mission is to provide an unforgettable wilderness experience for all clients, and she feels privileged to teach individuals how to prepare for and venture into the wild, whether for a few days or even weeks.

Jocelyn emphasizes that these events are designed to inspire participants to appreciate the great outdoors and to demonstrate that they are fully capable of enjoying it.

To get to Muncho Lake from Fort St. John, you can follow these general directions:

  1. Start on Alaska Highway (Highway 97): Head south from Fort St. John on Highway 97.
  2. Continue on Alaska Highway: Drive along the Alaska Highway, which will take you through various scenic areas. The road is well-marked, and you will be traveling through the Peace River region.
  3. Drive to Muncho Lake: The journey will take approximately 7-8 hours, depending on road conditions and stops. Muncho Lake is located about 300 kilometers from Fort Nelson and you will see signs directing you toward the lake as you approach.
  4. Enjoy the Scenery: This route is known for its beautiful landscapes and wildlife, so make sure to take your time and enjoy the views along the way.
Note: Service spots along the highway are sparse and taken seriously. Steamboat will have the last reception for SMS and Imessage. Toad River has wifi that can be purchased for $5. There is 911 towers along the highway. There is wifi at the Northern Rockies Lodge, but no scrolling during events. During outside activities there will be no cell reception.
