Teepee Falls

Tumbler Ridge, BC | UNESCO Global Geopark.

Some places just stop you in your tracks — Tepee Falls is one of them. This guided day hike winds through old spruce and aspen forest before opening up to one of northeastern BC's most captivating waterfalls. Watch as Tepee Creek makes a dramatic 15-metre plunge off ancient sandstone into a boulder-strewn canyon, with sweeping views of the Murray River valley stretching out beyond. It's the kind of place that reminds you why you came north.

Your guide brings this landscape to life — from the 90-million-year-old Cardium Formation geology beneath your feet to the 2009 discovery of a dinosaur trackway hidden among the canyon rocks. Keep your eyes on the cliffs too: mountain goats have made their home in the black shale ledges of the lower valley, thriving in terrain that would stop most predators cold.

At 6 km return with only one steep section near the viewpoint, this hike is accessible for most ability levels and makes a perfect introduction to the Geopark.

Distance: 6 km return
