The perfect 45-minute ski.

Are you ready to embrace the winter season and explore the beauty of cross-country skiing? If you already have your cross-country skis and are wondering where to hit the trails, look no further than Fort St. John—a town that thrives on winter recreation!

Fort St. John is known for its stunning winter landscapes and a strong community spirit centered around outdoor activities. One of the best spots for cross-country skiing is the Beatton Park Ski Trails, maintained by the dedicated Whisky Jack Nordic Ski Club.

This trail system offers a fantastic 45-minute skiing experience that is my favourite to accomplish on Tuesdays and Thursdays when my little boy is at pre-school, a trail perfect for those who are busy yet eager to get outside and enjoy the fresh air. Here’s a quick guide to navigating the trails:

  1. Start on the Willow Trail: Begin your adventure on the serene Willow Trail, where you can take in the tranquil beauty of the surrounding nature.

  2. Turn onto the Caribou Trail: As you glide along, make a turn onto the Cabinou Trail. This section offers a slightly more challenging terrain, making it ideal for those looking to elevate their skiing experience.

  3. Return via the Spruce Trail: Complete your loop by taking the Spruce Trail back to the lodge. This trail is lined with majestic spruce and poplar trees, creating a picturesque backdrop as you ski.

Whether you’re a seasoned skier or a newcomer to the sport, the Beatton Park Ski Trails provide a perfect setting to enjoy the outdoors. So grab your skis, bundle up, and make your way to Fort St. John for an unforgettable winter adventure. Happy skiing!
